Peacocking” is the act of one making a proud, showy display of oneself, the term springing, of course, from the way in which peacocks spread their brightly colored rear feathers in an attempt to impress and attract fellow birds. It could equally apply to this McLaren 675LT that has been modded to look like McLaren’s famed F1 GTR race car.

The 675LT is a specialized variant of the 650S that was limited to 500 examples. As the first model to wear the LT—for “Longtail”—badge in nearly 20 years, the 675 was created and launched as a track-focused high-performance machine with less weight and 40 percent more downforce than the 650S on which it’s built. One of the lucky customers decided to give his car a makeover with the help of McLaren Special Operations (MSO), with the result inspired by the 1997 Gulf-Davidoff GTC team’s F1 GTR.

On top of heritage features like the roof scoop, front fender vents, orange slim-spoke wheels, and body kit, there’s also the special paint. Of the 1000 hours that it took MSO to make this customization, McLaren said 800 hours were dedicated to the paint job, which included airbrushing. The black body against the light-blue top with orange striping is a take on the Gulf livery that is specific to the McLaren racing team. MSO previously applied the paint scheme to the P1 hypercar, too. Oddly, the side mirrors were not painted orange.

The guts also went through an overhaul, though it was not nearly as dramatic. The racing seats are covered in Carbon Black microsuede and have Gulf Blue and Gulf Orange contrast stitching, with personalized initials stitched on the headrests. The standard black seatbelts were swapped for orange ones, and the color was applied to the HVAC vent surrounds. More contrast stitching on the center console and dashboard carry the theme throughout the rest of the cabin. The colorful customization is sure to grab the attention of just about everybody, for better or worse. Now we wait for the official Longtail version of the 720S McLaren has promised.
